Hayaku: A Time Lapse Journey Through Japan

Here’s an inspiring journey across Japan, thanks to the talent and love for Japan of Brad Kremer. Armed with his Canon 5D Mark II, he shot this great video in timelapses in many locations around Japan, including Tokyo, Matsuyama, Imabari, Nagano, Gifu, and Ishizushisan. In a very appropriate way, “Hayaku” means “Hurry Up”. Via Fubiz.

A great video directed by Adam Berg over four weeks in Brazil, France, London and India for the Dulux Walls campaign: Let’s Colour Project. 260 real peoples around the globe joined to add over 120 different colors to their cities. Great photography, great visuals. Very colorful (obiously). Shot in timelapses that suits the idea behind the video very well. Via Fubiz.
Sushi Taxi say no to Bluefin Tuna

Here’s a new video created by LumeniSTUDIO for our pals at Anecdote Marketing for their campaign ” Sushi Taxi say no to Bluefin Tuna “. Basically, the concept is: if the bluefin tuna was as cute as the pandas, would you still eat it? The campaign objective is obviously to bring to people’s attention the state of this fish specie which is going to be extinct real soon if nothing is done. Most people tend to be more concerned about the state of “cute” animals, but there is other animals that are equally at risk or worst that don’t fit this cute thing, but still need our attention (especially since we’re generally part of both the problem and the solution). We raise our hat. Don’t worry, its not an extremist thing or anything. Its meant to be funny. No dialog, only written text with english subtitles, so be sure to turn on close captioning in the YouTube player!

In a follow up to this post, where we published some amazing images from photographer Patrick Mylund Nielsen of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which I nick-named The Birth of Mordor, here’s a Timelapses collection of the eruption, shot on the first two days of May. Incredible work. Amazing landscapes with the volcano in background, surreal.
The Third Dimension meet the Seventh Art

Its always amazing to witness how virtual universes, i.e. made up of CGI images, give reality a run for its money. Even more, the amount of time and talent some artists are willing to spend on some projects, where they recreate reality or even create a new one, is truly astounding. The idea behind the “Third&Seventh” project from Alex Roman was to “illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view where main subjects are already-built spaces”. In order to concretize his vision, Roman produced the following short, a 95% CGI piece that defy your sense of what’s real and what’s not. Only the photographer (shot on greenscreen), pigeons, timelapsed growing flowers, flying airplane and sky backgrounds are real. The rest is ALL CGI. A visual master piece, made of textures and lighting, of clam and poesy. Hyper-real. Of course, you’ll say, architecture is much easier to reproduce on a realistic scale than organic matter, but “easy” is a big word. A great achievement, nonetheless. You only have to see the number of comments on the short’s Vimeo page to get a sense of how people have an hard time believing its almost all CGI. Also, don’t miss the making of right after the short to get a glimpse of the models used to create this piece. Enjoy.
The perfect Coffee

Coffee is an essential tool of every filmmaker, image maker, or anybody that work in a job that requires loooonng hours for that matter. Yet, most of us don’t take the time to really appreciate the, dare I say, art of making, and tasting, good coffee. Which we should. In their quest of finding the ultimate tastemakers, Dpt4D (F.P.S.) is doing an ongoing serie about how to make the very best coffee. Shot in Intelligentsia, a coffee bar in Venice, California, they give us a very well shot, very satisfying glimpse of what it is to make the perfect coffee. Enjoy!

Here’s a highly stylized music video from Christopher Hewitt & Tim Brown created for Hecq Vs Exillion. Very good editing and directing. I really love this action packed pastiche born from the love of war movies from the 80s that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
